Fashion trends come and go, but we’ve never seen anything quite like the current situation brought to us by the novel coronavirus. In the spring of 2020, we had no idea that masks would become the new fashion statement of our time. Not knowing how much longer we’ll rely on masks to slow the spread of COVID-19, many people are rethinking how they address beauty. The smile used to be the first thing we would notice about one another. Now it’s the eyes. As you know, lines, wrinkles, and hooding can degrade the vibrancy and energy of this part of the face. At Sobel Skin in NYC, we’ve got a great solution for aging eyes, Subnovii Plasma Pen treatment.
What is Plasma and Why Should I Care?
In recent years, we’ve learned about the plasma that is part of the blood. Many dermatology and plastic surgery offices began offering microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma). That plasma is obtained by drawing blood from the arm and spinning it so that platelets and plasma separate from other blood products. The plasma pen is completely different. There is no blood draw. In fact, there is no blood.
The plasma that we are excited about is a state of matter much like a gas, liquid, and solid. Plasma is created by a reaction between the ionized gas and electrostatic energy. When the two interact, thermal energy, or heat, occurs. This heat reacts with the layers of oxygen and nitrogen that exist near the skin, resulting in a plasma arc, a temporary state of gas; a forcefield, if you will. The plasma arc lasts only a moment but stimulates tissue contraction as well as fibroblast activity in the dermis. Our Subnovii plasma pen is a fibroblast treatment that repairs aging and sun-damaged tissue. It is particularly effective at treating the fine lines and tissue laxity that occur around the eyes.
In clinical studies and practical use around the world, plasma fibroblast treatments have been achieving consistent, beautiful results with minimal downtime. This treatment can reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, and puffiness that make the eyes look old and tired. When treating the eyes only, the procedure may take less than half an hour. Tiny scabs form on the skin as a result of the heat that is created. These fall off in 5 to 10 days with minimal aftercare.
