Restylane® Contour NYC
Restylane® has added a new dermal filler to its lineup — Restylane® Contour. This filler is intended to return volume to the cheeks, where the aging process tends to make our cheeks flat and sunken. Dr. Sobel is proud to be one of the first practices in New York to carry Contour. Call 212.288.0060 today to learn more or schedule a treatment session!
What is Restylane® Contour?
Contour is the newest addition to the extensive line of Restylane® fillers. Restylane® was the first dermal filler approved for use by the FDA back in 2005. Since that time, Restylane® has continued to expand the line with different fillers targeting different areas of the face. Contour is the newest addition. It was approved by the FDA on June 28, 2021.
Contour is made from hyaluronic acid, utilizing XpresHAn Technology. It is categorized as a “natural” dermal filler.
How do Restylane® fillers work?
All Restylane® dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body that is responsible for hydrating and plumping the skin. Because of this, Restylane® fillers are classified as “naturally derived” fillers.
Restylane® is formulated to act exactly like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, simply adding volume where your body has lost it. The need for this arises because as we age our bodies produce one additional percentage point less collagen each year after our 20th birthday. Collagen provides the body’s natural skin support structure, so this ongoing decrease leads to sagging skin and the formation of lines and wrinkles. By binding with water molecules at the injection sites, each Restylane® product firms and plumps the skin, pushing up lines, adding volume, and taking years off the face.
Where is Contour intended to be used?
The FDA approved Restylane® Contour to improve “midface fullness.” In other words, sunken cheeks. As we age, the declining collagen production particularly shows in our cheeks. They flatten and sink. The buccal fat pad that supports the cheeks in our youth can thin and descend.
How is Contour different?
Restylane® Contour is the only cheek filler that uses Galderma’s proprietary XpresHAn Technology. This is used in Restylane® Refyne and Defyne and Restylane® Kysse. This technology restores volume and natural contour, but it allows dynamic movement. It creates a flexible, smooth gel that integrates with the skin and soft tissue to lift and volumize the cheeks in a very natural way. The flexibility that comes with XpresHAn Technology is what separates Contour from other dermal fillers used for the cheeks.
What can I expect from my results with Restylane® Contour?
Dr. Sobel is excited to add Restylane® Contour to our injectable offerings in his Park Avenue practice. Restylane® Contour is a great option for patients that want improved cheek volume but want a completely natural look. Contour can replace fat that has been lost with aging or weight loss, or it can simply provide volume and definition for those who want the appearance of higher cheekbones.
In research conducted by Galderma when seeking FDA approval for Contour, the company detailed these findings:
· 95% of patients said Restylane® Contour improved their midface fullness at 12 weeks after their injections.
· 100% of patients were satisfied with the smooth contour of their cheeks when asked at 12 weeks.
· 100% felt the same way for the entire first year after their Contour injections.
How long before I see my results with Restylane® Contour?
As soon as Dr. Sobel injects Contour, the hyaluronic acid binds with nearby water molecules to instantly return volume to the cheeks. There isn’t any waiting for results.
How long will my results last with Restylane® Contour?
Restylane® Contour adds volume and contour to the cheeks for up to one year.
Are there any side effects with Restylane® Contour?
As mentioned above, Contour is made primarily from hyaluronic acid (as are all Restylane® fillers). Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body that is responsible for hydrating, plumping, and firming the skin. Because it occurs naturally in the body, reactions to Contour are exceedingly rare.
The main side effects are slight redness and possible slight swelling at the injection sites. This usually resolves within a day or so.
This is the eighth Restylane® dermal filler to receive FDA approval. To gain the approval for each filler in the line, Galderma has had to demonstrate these are safe and effective injections for returning volume.
